Scouts Go Climbing

Posted on

The 70th Scouts enjoyed their last troop night before Christmas. They travelled by coach to the Glasgow Climbing centre.

Once there 21 Scouts and 3 young leaders donned harnesses & helmets to take to the ropes. They were given some tuition including how to use a version of a figure of 8 knot with a stopper knot to attach their harnesses to the climbing rope.

They used the “V to the knee” belaying technique that many of them were familiar with from crate climbing at Everton.

They spent the rest of the session taking in turns to climb & belay on different routes of the climbing wall. Some of the groups also tried climbing using the automatic belay devices.

It was a special night for Kenny Paton as it marked 50 years association with the 70th group. He was presented with a “thank you” card signed by everyone in the troop.
