Mosque Visit

The 85th have been working on parts of their World Challenge badge recently, and visited Glasgow Central Mosque last week to learn about another faith.

Their host Amir met them in the courtyard during evening prayers and told them about the history of the building, from the people who raised funds to build it, to its ongoing role as a vaccination centre for Glasgow following the recent pandemic. He talked about the history of muslims in Scotland including prominent figures throughout the last century as well as senior politicians today. He also described the uses of the different areas in the Mosque complex and the services they provide from community clubs and events to weddings and funerals.

When the group went inside to the prayer room they talked about how the worshippers give an amount of their wealth to charity each year, and about their beliefs. They learned how worshippers prepare for, and perform their prayers in the large prayer rooms, and how the Imam leads them in those.

A huge thanks to Amir who was a fantastic host and kept the Scouts captivated throughout.
