We’ve had the digital system for a few weeks now, and some of us have found it tricky to use. Here’s a quick few tips form our early use to help us as we get used to the new portal.
As you get used to it, if you find more useful information that would help others, please share it by sending an email with details to [email protected] to get it added here.
Your First Login
Your username on the new system is whatever your email address was at the time Compass was shutdown in November. You choose your password by following the link in the email you should have received. To help you find it, the subject of the mail was “Sign in to our new digital system”. If you didn’t receive a mail, the most common causes we have found so far are either:
- It went to your Spam/Junk folder
If this is the case, check that folder for the email, open it and follow the link.
If you don’t find it, just go to membership.scouts.org.uk and click ‘Forgot Password’. Most of the mails that sends end up in your junk/spam folder so check there. It should arrive within a minute.
If that still doesn’t work, contact your Group lead volunteer to check your email address is correct in the new system.
or - The email address you had in Compass wasn’t an obsolete one
If this is the case, then send an email to [email protected] asking them to change your login email address. They seem to be responding within a day or so.
Navigating the System
There are 3 different websites that make up the new system that we have found so far. These all have links between them. You can log into each one separately, although they all have the same username and password.
- membership.scouts.org.uk
This is where you find and maintain your personal details and see what permits, modules, awards, etc that you’ve completed. You also use this to submit NAN forms and find other members or scout groups (anywhere in the UK which will be handy for making new contacts). You can also see a quick summary view of your completed learning, run various reports and extracts using the data explorer tool, submit grant applications, approve new member applications, see what tasks you’ve been assigned or just message your teams. - learn.scouts.org.uk
This is your own main learning centre – it’s where you do your online training and register for other training courses - volunteeringopportunities.scouts.org.uk
This is where we can post adverts for new leaders for your Group or Sections. If Joe Bloggs goes onto scouts.org.uk and clicks the link to volunteer, he’ll be taken to this web page and will find all the adverts we post that are within the local area he gives. Remember to log in to be able to create an advert, otherwise you’ll only be able to respond to existing ones. When you create your advert, there’s an off-the-shelf template to save you thinking up words or even a banner picture for it. We understand that all new members will have to register their interest through this web page in order to be created as a new member in the system.
It’s worth bookmarking each of the above websites individually to save trying to find links to them.
