District Orienteering Competition

Posted on

The District Scouts Orienteering Competition took place in November. Based at Everton the day began with some refresher training on grid references, compass bearings and working as a team.

After lunch the teams, each made up of 4 Scouts, had 2 hours to navigate between six check-points. Bonus points could be gained by completing extra challenges ranging from questions about navigation to those testing their Scouting knowledge.

Once all the teams had made it round the course the points were tallied.

The winners were a team from the 10th, who came through some very stiff competition to win. A big well done to them.

Well done to everyone who took part. Around 50 scouts from across the district attended and it was great to see them all.

A big thanks goes to our ADC for Scouts Gordon Sinclair and to all the leaders for planning, training, manning the check points and giving up their valuable free time to make this happen. Our DC Dr Martin Buchan was on site to present the winning trophy to the winners.

He also took the opportunity to present Colin Burns, Scout Leader from the 33rd Scout Group with his Wood-badge. Well done to Colin too.

We can’t wait to see what is planned for our Scouts in 2024.
