Minibus Expedition to the Hebrides

The 85th Scouts are recovering from a fantastic summer camp this year. The group climbed aboard a fleet of vehicles to tour around Scotland as far as Harris and Lewis, wild camping in some of the most stunning wild campsites Scotland has to offer each night.

They spent the first day powerboating around Loch Lomond before camping overnight on one of the islands there. An early morning saw them take the gondola to the top of Aonach Mor before camping at the Brochs in Glenelg. They made their way out to Skye on the turntable ferry at Kylerhea before climbing the Old Man of Storr and settling for the night near Kilt Rock. A Calmac ferry with incredible staff took them to Harris where they visited the Blackhouse village of Lewis and the Callanish Stones before camping on Luskentyre Beach.

A day of snorkelling on Harris followed before they made their way back on their final ferry to Ullapool. They were hosted to a tour of the ship’s bridge on that journey before heading off to climb Stac Pollaidh in Wester Ross and then camping at Dores Beach near Inverness. They made their way home down the A9 over the last two days dropping in on the Landmark Centre at Carrbridge and adventure tubing at Pitlochry on the way.

A huge thankyou to the staff on the community run Kylerhea ferry who went out of their way to accommodate the group, all the staff at CalMac office and both ferries for their fantastic hosting of them, Kate and the team at Wild Harris for taking the group snorkelling, Mhairi and the staff at Gearrannan Blackhouse Village for their excellent welcome, the staff at Nae Limits near Pitlochry for laying on the final water adventure, and the organisers of this year’s Blair Atholl International Scout Jamborette and Willie the farmer for providing the final campsite.
